Does Attitude Really Make A Difference?

Attitudes definitely change with age, experience and circumstance, I am sure that everybody can relate to this right ?
Many people have cited about the effects of a positive attitude, and the success that it can bring to an individual. But what is a 'positive attitude' ?
Henry Ford, the focal point of Fordism famously said:
"If you say you can or you can't you are right either way"
Ford was stating that your mental belief determines the outcome of your endeavours, to me this is the best definition of a positive attitude.
But is this true?
I have wrote before about the period of time when I worked for a direct marketing company called Praetorian Marketing, part of the group PerDM, in my blog'Technology, Business and Engineering'.
The whole company philosophy was very attitude focused, this all seemed a little alien to me at first. Motivational stories were told to 'pump you up' for the day ahead, music was played in the office. It was my first experience of an 'Americanised' workplace.
I learnt a lot whilst i worked at Praetorian. Not about direct marketing, no, I truly sucked at that. About attitude, i was taught that if you really believed that you could do something, then it was only your fault if you didn't achieve this. I also learnt that "If you can honestly say that you're the hardest working person you know, you cannot help but succeed." this quote has stayed with me since.
I, as I'm sure many of you do, know a lot of hard working people. Being the hardest working person you know is extremely difficult, but that's the beauty of this quote, it wills you on. It pushes you further to give more and more.
I absolutely believe that a positive attitude is a major part of why many people become successful. Without this, i am sure that i would have crumbled by now.
I'd also like to hear from you all, Do you believe attitude makes a difference? And share your stories with me on attitude, I'd love to hear them.
