The Story Of My Positive Attitude

One thing I believe in 100% is that having a positive attitude generates positive results. I have a very 'american' out look on work, in the way I think  that if your enjoying yourself you will produce your best work. One of the first organisations to develop this was Walmart, they used to encourage their employees to sing and play guitars in their staff rooms and on break to increase productivity. I developed this mindset whilst working for a direct marketing company underneath the brand, PerDM. Direct marketing means to directly approach a customer in the street or their home and offer the product or service you represent.
The campaign that I belonged to at the time was TalkTalk. TalkTalk had a bad reputation when they started out as they had a low budget and didn't have great customer service, but, it was cheap. The fact it was cost effective was a a great tool to use against the more expensive competitors. The only problem was I had to knock on peoples houses interrupt their daily lives and sell them products they didn't generally want. Nevertheless I did it and even made a few sales. The job was 100% commission based and I had a home and a child to keep and provide for, so after a month I made the decision to get a job with a salary so id know exactly whether or not id be eating this week. PerDM was founded in America and believed in being positive. One of the sayings they had was that, "If you can honestly say that you're the hardest working person you know, you cannot help but succeed." They beat into you from the first day that being positive meant being successful, and had impacts at every morning meeting. (An impact is an inspirational story about how somebody overcome negatives to succeed) I believed that having a positive attitude will bring you success 100% but for me this company would not bring me success personally. I am glad that I worked there, when I left I had thousands of pounds owed to various companies for gas, electrics rent etc. This job didn't pay me very well financially, but I had a new attitude and a goal that i was going to succeed, I didn't know how or when but I knew I had too. I went to a PerDM rally in Manchester, whilst I was there I rubbed shoulders with vice-presidents and managers from across Britain. There was stories about how people had built businesses from PerDM. I was inspired by how these people never gave up, and made a career out of it. It was then that I decided i had to build a career, not in sales as I wasn't very good at it, but in something.

"If you can honestly say that you're the
hardest working person you know, you
                                                    cannot help but succeed."

This was a big stepping stone for me in my working life, prior to this experience I was just an average worker, I did what I had to do to keep the bosses off my back, no more, no less. I would slow down if I was doing 'too much' rather then working for the company I worked for myself. I was not classed as being a irreplaceable or extremely valuable employee. I was the kind of worker that I would look at now and think, 'He does the bare minimum, He wouldn't help us out even if he could.' Today i look for the best employees in the company, I see potential in people easier, I can spot better talent a mile away. Working for a positive company made me realise that regardless if you're the best or worst worker, everybody can benefit from a positive attitude.
Since working for PerDM I have worked for three companies, all of these jobs started as agency, and all where extremely impressed with my positive attitude. Currently I work for The Brockmoor Foundry Company and to be honest I couldn't be happier at work, every day I push myself to learn more in order to benefit my future career. My positive attitude means that I always try my best, no matter how difficult, monotonous, fast paced or physically challenging what I'm doing is. I have now enrolled at the City Of Wolverhampton College, and I am confident I can pass with impressive grades. I always ask questions to improve my knowledge or engineering and its practises, and its this frame of mind that will see me achieve my goals. My  positive attitude will take me places that I could never have got before, it will make me successful, I am sure of it.
